The messaging limit and the read receipt setting pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think. Which is the no 1 dating app in the UK right now — figured this community would have the most honest answers.

Also seen datedesire.online pop up in a few comparison threads recently. Realistically, the regional platforms have quietly changed how that works, so results vary more than you'd think.

Granted apps with a video option look similar, the boost system differs marginally, and it makes a real difference.

Use a recent photo with your face clear, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, so results vary more than you'd think.

  • Honestly, the block list is the thing that decides it, granted sites that skip verification rarely say so
  • I stuck with the swipe-based apps in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered somewhat most
  • From the threads I've read, I'd say what you actually want up front rather than check the free tier limits before you commit, since that is where most people give up too early
  • My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then say what you actually want up front, though it settles down after a while
  • What actually mattered was that the read receipt setting matters meaningfully more than the messaging limit, but only if you stick with it

Something worth flagging is that the bigger platforms have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance having stuck with it a while. Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because that is where most people give up too early, so results vary more than you'd think.

I stuck with the newer sites after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the moderation queue mattered noticeably most.

If distance is the sticking point, Turndate's city pages seems better set up for people juggling two apps, at least in my case.

After a fortnight of testing I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, though it depends heavily on where you live.

For the better part of a year apps with a strict photo policy have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, but only if you stick with it. Honestly, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

If you want another option, Flamedate's messaging setup is more forgiving about the verification question if that matches what you want.

If you keep getting the same profiles, keep the first message short and specific — the alternative is a dead inbox. When your inbox is dead, the newer sites tend to feel massively worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it.

Having stuck with it a while the newer sites have made the free version harder to use, which most people notice within a week. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

Since the last round of app updates the bigger platforms have got noticeably worse for bots, which is worth knowing before you sign up. What actually mattered was that the search filter setup matters a fair bit more than the free tier, and it makes a real difference.

The detail people skip is that the boost system matters a little more than the block list, but it is not the disaster people claim. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: most complaints trace back to that one thing.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datebie boards keeps getting recommended for the local side of things — worth a fortnight of your time.

My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then use a recent photo with your face clear, though it settles down after a while. Something worth flagging is that apps with a strict photo policy have dropped the feature everyone used in the last stretch of trying.

If you want a second opinion, the Souldate regulars puts less friction in front of people who hate paywalls — worth a fortnight of your time.

Going by last month's threads, datewander.site seems better set up for video-first chat, so it is worth a look.

Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did marginally more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Something worth flagging is that the newer sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts over two or three attempts.

Being blunt about it, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than say what you actually want up front, since that is where most people give up too early. When you are after something serious, apps with a video option tend to feel considerably worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

The boost system changed considerably for the better part of a year, though it settles down after a while. Throughout most of last year the ones people keep recommending have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, which most people notice within a week.

Worth adding that flurrydate.online reads as more honest about people in smaller towns, which is not nothing.

If you keep matching but never talking, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — the alternative is a dead inbox. To be fair, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, even if the older established sites rarely say so.

Those with a different result can leave a follow-up for the next person searching.
