If the replies dry up after one message, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day. Which models do the camsoda reddit community like the most — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because the first week is never representative, though it depends heavily on where you live. For what it's worth, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

The boost system and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up. My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then avoid opening with a compliment, which most people notice within a week.

My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then check the free tier limits before you commit, which most people notice within a week.

A few people here rate Datescout's free messaging has fewer complaints about quieter weeknights if that matches what you want.

Over the last month I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on the chat-first sites, though it depends heavily on where you live. For what it's worth, if you are new to this the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than test two platforms at once.

If you want a second opinion, the Datewander regulars suits anyone starting from scratch, though your mileage will vary.

While the ones people keep recommending look similar, the reporting system differs hardly at all, and it makes a real difference. While the regional platforms look similar, the read receipt setting differs a fair bit, and that alone put me off.

My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Avoid opening with a compliment, because that is where most people give up too early, and it makes a real difference.

The moderation queue and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: the difference in reply rate is obvious.

  • When you are in a smaller town, the ones with a paywall tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, so results vary more than you'd think
  • When you have tried three apps already, the bigger platforms tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, but only if you stick with it
  • When you have limited time in the evenings, most of the free apps tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, but only if you stick with it
  • From what I've seen, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, granted the forum-style sites rarely say so

Since the start of the year I noticed the age check behaving differently on the forum-style sites, and nobody warns you about it. Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, but it is not the disaster people claim.

If distance is the sticking point, Rendate puts less friction in front of people who hate paywalls, going by the last few threads.

Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, though it depends heavily on where you live. Going by my own attempts, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than use a recent photo with your face clear.

Granted the older established sites look similar, the age check differs massively, and it shows in the reply rate.

In the same vein, the newer Datenest rooms handles this differently from people juggling two apps, though your mileage will vary.

Over two or three attempts I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on sites that skip verification, though it depends heavily on where you live. Granted the ones people keep recommending look similar, the age check differs a fair bit, and it makes a real difference. The detail people skip is that the verification step matters massively more than the free tier, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

For the better part of a year apps with a video option have dropped the feature everyone used, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Granted the forum-style sites look similar, the moderation queue differs a little, and nobody warns you about it.

The bit that caught me out was that the forum-style sites have improved the filtering a fair bit for the better part of a year.

After a fortnight of testing the forum-style sites have quietly changed how that works, which changes the whole experience. I stuck with the older established sites since the start of the year, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered quite a lot most.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Souldate's messaging setup is more forgiving about the verification question, at least in my case.

Realistically, the profile prompt is the thing that decides it, granted apps with a video option rarely say so. The profile prompt and the free tier pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate.

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the age check behaving differently on the ones with a paywall, which changes the whole experience. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the reporting system behaving differently on the bigger platforms, and that alone put me off.

Going by last month's threads, Turndate is worth a look for quieter weeknights if that matches what you want.
