About this member

The detail people skip is that most of the free apps have got noticeably worse for bots over two or three attempts. Having tried most of these, apps with a strict photo policy have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, so results vary more than you'd think. The pattern I keep seeing is that the chat-first sites have tightened up the reporting flow in the past six months. Speaking personally, the forum-style sites have got noticeably worse for bots, though it settles down after a while. While the forum-style sites look similar, the discovery feed differs a fair bit, and that alone put me off.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because that is where most people give up too early, but it is not the disaster people claim. For what it's worth, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than move to a proper conversation quickly. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: it stops you blaming the app for the profile. Worth saying that the decision to keep the first message short and specific did a great deal more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim. After a fortnight of testing I noticed the reporting system behaving differently on the older established sites, though it settles down after a while.

What Trevor James tends to post about

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: the alternative is a dead inbox. The profile prompt and the age check pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it. What surprised me was that the ones with a paywall have started throttling messages throughout most of last year. Broadly speaking, the chat-first sites have tightened up the reporting flow, which is worth knowing before you sign up.
