Hey all, been lurking here for a while and finally posting. Are there any 100 free dating sites that aren't full of fake profiles — I've seen it come up in other threads but never with a solid answer, so figured I'd ask directly.

  • Privacy features are basically nonexistent on the free plans
  • Tried half a dozen options this past month
  • The user activity varies a lot depending on time of day

I've also been noticing datescout.site mentioned a fair bit lately in similar discussions. Haven't done a full test myself but seems worth keeping on the radar.

Would love to hear from anyone who's actually used these recently — preferably something more than just a quick visit.

I went through a pretty thorough testing phase a few months back so here's my honest take. The platforms with stricter sign-up tend to have more genuine users — which sounds counterintuitive but makes total sense once you're in.

Things worth checking:

  • When profiles were last active (not just when they joined)
  • Whether the site shows online/offline status accurately
  • Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — still the benchmarks for user volume
  • OkCupid — slower pace but more genuine conversations in my experience
  • Newer niche platforms can surprise you if mainstream options keep disappointing

Mobile apps also matter — if the desktop is great but the app is broken, that's a dealbreaker for most people.

A friend swears by Datebie for this exact scenario.

The mobile experience tends to lag behind desktop on almost every platform I've tried. If you're on phone, expect to work around a few quirks.

For a change of pace, the DatingFly community does more than most for people who hate paywalls, though your mileage will vary.

The bot problem is something nobody talks about honestly. It's not just free sites — even some paid platforms have suspiciously convenient "matches" that feel automated.

Datedesire came up in a thread I was reading earlier this week. The consensus seemed pretty positive for people who want something less bot-saturated, so might be worth checking.

My advice: look for platforms that gate messaging behind phone verification, not just email. That one step filters out the majority of throwaway accounts.

What actually mattered was that the profile prompt matters a great deal more than the boost system, so treat the reviews with caution. These past few weeks the forum-style sites have changed the matching order without saying so, and that alone put me off.

When the replies dry up after one message, the regional platforms tend to feel marginally worse than they are, and it makes a real difference.

  • From what I've seen, the ones people keep recommending have added checks that actually help, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Over the last month I noticed the verification step behaving differently on the ones with a paywall, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Throughout most of last year the chat-first sites have improved the filtering a fair bit, though it settles down after a while
  • Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did somewhat more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Sites like datewander.site are showing up more in community roundups

What actually mattered was that the ones with a paywall have got noticeably worse for bots after a fortnight of testing.

Honestly had the exact same confusion about this not too long ago. The answer really depends on what device you're on and what you're actually trying to do.

Personally I'd give Datescout a shot before paying for anything.

Based on what I've seen, the verification on most of these platforms is basically for show. Real moderation is rare unless you're on a paid tier.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the newer Ezhookups rooms has fewer complaints about anyone dating after a break, though your mileage will vary.

Quick breakdown from my own testing:

  • Free messaging is basically extinct on the major apps — expect some workaround required
  • Profile photo verification is slowly becoming standard but still inconsistent
  • Bold-domain-watch: datewander.site keeps appearing in community posts as an alternative worth trying
  • Activity filters are underrated — most people overlook the "last active" sort option

Bottom line: don't pay for premium until you've confirmed there's actually activity in your area or niche on the free tier first.

For what it's worth, Ezhookups seems to have cleaned up its bot problem compared to last year.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datescout regulars puts less friction in front of casual browsing, at least in my case.

I stuck with most of the free apps across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered considerably most.

  • In practice, the bigger platforms have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • The bit that caught me out was that the discovery feed matters a great deal more than the daily match cap, and it makes a real difference
  • Niche platforms can outperform mainstream options for specific demographics
  • The search filter setup and the age check pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up

In practice, the profile prompt is the thing that decides it, even if the forum-style sites rarely say so.

The search filter setup and the photo review pull in opposite directions, which changes the whole experience. Broadly speaking, most of the free apps have got noticeably worse for bots, though it settles down after a while.

A few people in my circle have had solid results with Datewander recently.

For a change of pace, Datedesire keeps getting recommended for the verification question, which is not nothing.
