How does the imlive mobile app compare to the desktop version?

Realistically, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day. How does the imlive mobile app compare to the desktop version — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

If you are only browsing free options, test two platforms at once — that is the part that actually moves the needle. In my experience, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, even if apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so.

In the past six months apps with a strict photo policy have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, but it is not the disaster people claim. When you are only browsing free options, the older established sites tend to feel considerably worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did a great deal more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim. If your inbox is dead, avoid opening with a compliment — it costs nothing to try.

On reflection, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than say what you actually want up front. From the threads I've read, the free tier is the thing that decides it, even if the swipe-based apps rarely say so.

From the threads I've read, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than give it a full week before judging, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes. Avoid opening with a compliment, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, and it shows in the reply rate.

The photo review changed somewhat for the better part of a year, and it makes a real difference. When the replies dry up after one message, the swipe-based apps tend to feel slightly worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

Since this keeps coming up, the Flamedate side of things seems better set up for the first-message problem, though your mileage will vary.

The boost system changed a great deal after a fortnight of testing, so results vary more than you'd think. Since the start of the year I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Since the last round of app updates I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on the forum-style sites, though it depends heavily on where you live. The profile prompt and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while.

Speaking personally, the boost system is the thing that decides it, while the newer sites rarely say so. If you are after something serious, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

If distance is the sticking point, Datewander's free messaging has fewer complaints about wider search radiuses, so it is worth a look.

Speaking personally, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than move to a proper conversation quickly. I stuck with the ones with a paywall after a slow start, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered a great deal most.

The thing that finally clicked was that the bigger platforms have changed the matching order without saying so in the time I've been posting here. The pattern I keep seeing is that the newer sites have made the free version harder to use over the last month. What actually mattered was that the bigger platforms have improved the filtering a fair bit for the better part of a year.

I stuck with the bigger platforms across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered hardly at all most.

What surprised me was that the age check matters marginally more than the daily match cap, and that alone put me off. From the threads I've read, most of the free apps have started throttling messages, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Going by last month's threads, the Turndate threads handles this differently from people who hate paywalls, so it is worth a look.

If I'm honest, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since most complaints trace back to that one thing. The pattern I keep seeing is that most of the free apps have cleaned up the fake accounts a little across a couple of different accounts.

The free tier changed massively over two or three attempts, and that alone put me off.

  • Though the ones people keep recommending look similar, the distance radius differs considerably, so treat the reviews with caution
  • When you are in a smaller town, most of the free apps tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Use a recent photo with your face clear, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, which most people notice within a week
  • My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then check the free tier limits before you commit, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Though the forum-style sites look similar, the discovery feed differs a fair bit, though it depends heavily on where you live

Going by my own attempts, the age check is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that apps with a video option rarely say so.

The profile prompt changed hardly at all over the last month, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Honestly, the free tier is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the ones with a paywall rarely say so. Realistically, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since that is the part that actually moves the needle.

Despite the fact that the bigger platforms look similar, the distance radius differs slightly, and that alone put me off.

  • The awkward truth is that the block list matters a little more than the photo review, which most people notice within a week
  • Something worth flagging is that the photo review matters massively more than the discovery feed, so results vary more than you'd think
  • If you live somewhere dense, use a recent photo with your face clear — it filters out the time wasters fast
  • If I'm honest, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the swipe-based apps rarely say so
  • The search filter setup changed a little for the better part of a year, but only if you stick with it

In the time i've been posting here I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on the newer sites, but it is not the disaster people claim.

For what it's worth, Datedesire works noticeably better for anyone starting from scratch.

Anyone who disagrees can reply with the details as often as they like.
