Been lurking here for a while and finally have a question worth posting. How is the mingle dating app for seniors — curious what people with real experience think.

  • If your inbox is dead, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — it costs nothing to try
  • The block list changed massively since the last round of app updates, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Broadly speaking, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since the first week is never representative

In my experience, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than widen the distance radius early on.

The distance radius changed a great deal these past few weeks, which explains a lot of the complaints here. For what it's worth, the bigger platforms have got noticeably worse for bots, which most people notice within a week.

These past few weeks I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on the ones with a paywall, but it is not the disaster people claim. The thing that finally clicked was that the reporting system matters a great deal more than the discovery feed, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the newer sites have added checks that actually help across a couple of different accounts. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep the first message short and specific: that is the part that actually moves the needle.

Since this keeps coming up, the newer Datenest rooms moves faster on people juggling two apps if that matches what you want.

For what it's worth, sites that skip verification have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, and that alone put me off.

  • Realistically, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, while the niche ones rarely say so
  • From the threads I've read, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since it costs nothing to try
  • Going by my own attempts, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, though the swipe-based apps rarely say so
  • The detail people skip is that the bigger platforms have moved the useful bits behind a subscription since the start of the year
  • If you have tried three apps already, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — that is where most people give up too early

Avoid opening with a compliment, because it filters out the time wasters fast, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

For what it's worth, the Datescout boards reads as more honest about quieter weeknights, judging by what people report here.

Honestly, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, though apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so. The matching algorithm changed massively since the start of the year, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Since the start of the year sites that skip verification have tightened up the reporting flow, and it shows in the reply rate. The free tier changed massively over the last month, so results vary more than you'd think.

If the replies dry up after one message, avoid opening with a compliment — the alternative is a dead inbox.

Going by last month's threads, Flamedate's messaging setup reads as more honest about wider search radiuses, at least in my case.

If you are after something serious, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — it filters out the time wasters fast. If you are in a smaller town, give it a full week before judging — the difference in reply rate is obvious.

Coming at it from another angle, the Luvdate boards keeps getting recommended for video-first chat, going by the last few threads.

The profile prompt changed marginally after giving it a proper go, and that alone put me off.

  • Give it a full week before judging, because it filters out the time wasters fast, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Avoid opening with a compliment, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, and it makes a real difference
  • The reporting system changed considerably after a slow start, which most people notice within a week
  • Judging by my own inbox, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, although the regional platforms rarely say so
  • Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it

Going by my own attempts, the swipe-based apps have got noticeably worse for bots, which most people notice within a week.

Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because the first week is never representative, but only if you stick with it.

If I'm honest, most of the free apps have added checks that actually help, though it depends heavily on where you live. The verification step changed quite a lot in the time I've been posting here, which changes the whole experience.

  • Judging by my own inbox, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to
  • The photo review and the moderation queue pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week
  • I stuck with the older established sites after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered slightly most

Check the free tier limits before you commit, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, and it makes a real difference.

The distance radius and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Going by last month's threads, the Rendate regulars has fewer complaints about people who hate paywalls.

Although the swipe-based apps look similar, the photo review differs a little, though it depends heavily on where you live.

From what I've seen, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than test two platforms at once. My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then give it a full week before judging, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Worth adding that datingfly reads as more honest about people juggling two apps if that matches what you want.

What changed my mind was that most of the free apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance since the start of the year. Speaking personally, the newer sites have made the first message cost something, and it shows in the reply rate.
