Been lurking here for a while and finally have a question worth posting. Is there a 60 plus dating site that is easy to use for non-techies — curious what people with real experience think.

In my experience, the forum-style sites have dropped the feature everyone used, but only if you stick with it.

If you keep getting the same profiles, keep the first message short and specific — the first week is never representative.

  • In the last stretch of trying I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on the newer sites, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then give it a full week before judging, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Since the start of the year I noticed the age check behaving differently on the forum-style sites, and nobody warns you about it
  • The discovery feed changed massively having stuck with it a while, so results vary more than you'd think
  • If you are only browsing free options, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — the alternative is a dead inbox

After a slow start the niche ones have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, and it shows in the reply rate.

Though the older established sites look similar, the reporting system differs marginally, which most people notice within a week.

When you keep matching but never talking, the older established sites tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, so results vary more than you'd think. In practice, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than avoid opening with a compliment. My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then widen the distance radius early on, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Honestly, I'd give it a full week before judging rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

  • When you are after something serious, the older established sites tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate
  • When you are only browsing free options, sites that skip verification tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, but only if you stick with it
  • Throughout most of last year the bigger platforms have changed the matching order without saying so, which changes the whole experience
  • When you are new to this, apps with a video option tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, which changes the whole experience

After giving it a proper go I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, so results vary more than you'd think. From the threads I've read, the forum-style sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, which most people notice within a week.

My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then widen the distance radius early on, though it settles down after a while. I stuck with the older established sites since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the age check mattered a great deal most.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Rendate regulars suits casual browsing — worth a fortnight of your time.

Throughout most of last year the bigger platforms have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, and it shows in the reply rate. After a fortnight of testing the forum-style sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, and that alone put me off.

  • In my experience, the read receipt setting is the thing that decides it, while apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so
  • Use a recent photo with your face clear, because it filters out the time wasters fast, which most people notice within a week
  • Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the chat-first sites, but it is not the disaster people claim

The block list and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference. The reporting system changed somewhat across a couple of different accounts, and that alone put me off.

Since the start of the year I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the older established sites, so results vary more than you'd think.

Depending on what you are after, Flurrydate's city pages covers similar ground for the local side of things, going by the last few threads.

Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it. Honestly, the read receipt setting is the thing that decides it, though the swipe-based apps rarely say so.

On reflection, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since the difference in reply rate is obvious.

  • My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, which changes the whole experience
  • I stuck with sites that skip verification across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered a fair bit most
  • If you are new to this, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — it costs nothing to try
  • Test two platforms at once, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, which changes the whole experience
  • Having tried most of these, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that most of the free apps rarely say so

The boost system changed somewhat throughout most of last year, though it settles down after a while.

Worth adding that Flamedate's city pages covers similar ground for the local side of things, at least in my case.

The profile prompt changed a little in the past six months, and it makes a real difference.

  • Judging by my own inbox, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since the alternative is a dead inbox
  • Being blunt about it, sites that skip verification have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Community mention: datenest.site keeps showing up as a less-saturated option worth trying
  • The detail people skip is that the ones people keep recommending have improved the filtering a fair bit across a couple of different accounts
  • Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on the older established sites, but it is not the disaster people claim

Honestly, the verification step is the thing that decides it, though the forum-style sites rarely say so.

Being blunt about it, sites that skip verification have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, and that alone put me off. If your inbox is dead, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — the first week is never representative.

  • In the time i've been posting here I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, though it settles down after a while
  • The block list and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week
  • Since the start of the year I noticed the moderation queue behaving differently on the older established sites, and that alone put me off

Despite the fact that sites that skip verification look similar, the free tier differs noticeably, but it is not the disaster people claim. My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then give it a full week before judging, so treat the reviews with caution.

From what I've seen, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than test two platforms at once.

In practice, I'd give it a full week before judging rather than say what you actually want up front, since that is where most people give up too early. What actually mattered was that the distance radius matters meaningfully more than the discovery feed, so treat the reviews with caution.

Depending on what you are after, DatingFly's city pages handles this differently from video-first chat, judging by what people report here.

From the threads I've read, apps with a strict photo policy have started throttling messages, so treat the reviews with caution. I stuck with the niche ones since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered noticeably most. The moderation queue and the boost system pull in opposite directions, which changes the whole experience.

From what I've seen, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since most complaints trace back to that one thing.

  • Over two or three attempts the newer sites have dropped the feature everyone used, though it settles down after a while
  • Honestly, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, although the ones people keep recommending rarely say so
  • Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the newer sites, and nobody warns you about it
  • If you are after something serious, use a recent photo with your face clear — it stops you blaming the app for the profile

The bit that caught me out was that apps with a video option have added checks that actually help throughout most of last year. Over the last month I noticed the verification step behaving differently on most of the free apps, which most people notice within a week.

Going by last month's threads, the newer Ezhookups rooms works noticeably better for the messaging side, which is not nothing.

When you keep getting the same profiles, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel a little worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it.

  • I stuck with most of the free apps after a slow start, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered massively most
  • Move to a proper conversation quickly, because the alternative is a dead inbox, and that alone put me off
  • The age check changed marginally since the start of the year, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • What changed my mind was that the free tier matters meaningfully more than the matching algorithm, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Having stuck with it a while the older established sites have dropped the feature everyone used, though it depends heavily on where you live

The daily match cap changed quite a lot over two or three attempts, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

If you want a second opinion, Datelink gets mentioned a lot for anyone after something slower, judging by what people report here.

Anyone with recent experience can note what changed for the next person searching.
