Having tried most of these, the profile prompt is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the niche ones rarely say so. The distance radius and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it. What are the best fwb apps that aren't full of bots — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

Also been seeing flamedate.online pop up in discussions around this. What surprised me was that the newer sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little in the past six months.

Move to a proper conversation quickly, because the first week is never representative, though it depends heavily on where you live.

In the time i've been posting here the regional platforms have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Widen the distance radius early on, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

Since this keeps coming up, the Souldate community covers similar ground for anyone after something slower, judging by what people report here.

If you have limited time in the evenings, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — that is the part that actually moves the needle.

  • The photo review and the verification step pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it
  • The bit that caught me out was that the newer sites have added checks that actually help these past few weeks
  • My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, which most people notice within a week
  • Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did noticeably more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it
  • When you have limited time in the evenings, the swipe-based apps tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here

The part nobody mentions is that the older established sites have added checks that actually help in the time I've been posting here. Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

What actually mattered was that the swipe-based apps have leaned much heavier on paid boosts for the better part of a year. The boost system changed noticeably in the past six months, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, and that alone put me off.

  • Even if sites that skip verification look similar, the photo review differs meaningfully, so treat the reviews with caution
  • When you are new to this, the niche ones tend to feel slightly worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • On reflection, the newer sites have dropped the feature everyone used, though it settles down after a while
  • For what it's worth, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since the first week is never representative
  • Platforms like rendate.site are mentioned often in community threads as lower-noise alternatives

When you are only browsing free options, the forum-style sites tend to feel marginally worse than they are, which changes the whole experience. The pattern I keep seeing is that the age check matters a fair bit more than the discovery feed, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did a little more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

On the same subject, the Datewander side of things puts less friction in front of the local side of things.

After a fortnight of testing I noticed the matching algorithm behaving differently on the bigger platforms, but it is not the disaster people claim. Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it.

Widen the distance radius early on, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, and it shows in the reply rate. The daily match cap changed massively after giving it a proper go, which most people notice within a week.

Something worth flagging is that the regional platforms have dropped the feature everyone used over roughly forty conversations. What actually mattered was that the verification step matters massively more than the photo review, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

For the better part of a year most of the free apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Depending on what you are after, the newer Datedesire rooms moves faster on the messaging side, judging by what people report here.

The thing that finally clicked was that the newer sites have dropped the feature everyone used after a slow start. What actually mattered was that the boost system matters a great deal more than the messaging limit, and that alone put me off.

For what it's worth, datebie.online keeps getting recommended for people juggling two apps.

Having tried most of these, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages. Honestly, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, although the bigger platforms rarely say so.

Speaking personally, if you are new to this the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages.

Since this keeps coming up, flurrydate.online is worth a look for anyone starting from scratch, though your mileage will vary.

In practice, the verification step is the thing that decides it, though the newer sites rarely say so. I stuck with the chat-first sites in the past six months, and the honest result was that the age check mattered a fair bit most.
