To be fair, if you are new to this the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight. Where are the mature dating sites — real experiences only please.

  • The daily match cap changed a great deal over two or three attempts, so results vary more than you'd think
  • The awkward truth is that the messaging limit matters hardly at all more than the profile prompt, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Being blunt about it, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, while the ones people keep recommending rarely say so

When you live somewhere dense, the newer sites tend to feel a little worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

If you have limited time in the evenings, move to a proper conversation quickly — it filters out the time wasters fast. While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

For the better part of a year the regional platforms have added checks that actually help, which most people notice within a week. The thing that finally clicked was that the regional platforms have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance throughout most of last year.

These past few weeks I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on the niche ones, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Having stuck with it a while I noticed the photo review behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

On the same subject, Datelink's city pages is worth a look for anyone dating after a break, going by the last few threads.

If the replies dry up after one message, widen the distance radius early on — it costs nothing to try.

  • In the time i've been posting here the niche ones have started throttling messages, so results vary more than you'd think
  • The age check and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it
  • The bit that caught me out was that the search filter setup matters a fair bit more than the discovery feed, but only if you stick with it
  • My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then test two platforms at once, and that alone put me off
  • The profile prompt changed slightly across a couple of different accounts, and it shows in the reply rate

I stuck with apps with a video option since the start of the year, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered noticeably most. My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then widen the distance radius early on, but only if you stick with it.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Luvdate threads moves faster on casual browsing, going by the last few threads.

Despite the fact that the forum-style sites look similar, the verification step differs a great deal, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Going by my own attempts, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than check the free tier limits before you commit.

When you are after something serious, the niche ones tend to feel slightly worse than they are, which most people notice within a week.

In the same vein, the Datebie platform seems better set up for anyone after something slower.

If I'm honest, apps with a video option have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, which is worth knowing before you sign up. My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then move to a proper conversation quickly, but only if you stick with it.

Since this keeps coming up, DatingFly's search filters is more forgiving about people who hate paywalls — worth a fortnight of your time.

When your inbox is dead, the chat-first sites tend to feel massively worse than they are, which most people notice within a week. While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to check the free tier limits before you commit: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

Going by my own attempts, the ones with a paywall have improved the filtering a fair bit, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • The daily match cap changed meaningfully over two or three attempts, and it shows in the reply rate
  • I stuck with the newer sites in the past six months, and the honest result was that the matching algorithm mattered a great deal most
  • Though the ones with a paywall look similar, the profile prompt differs a little, though it settles down after a while
  • Since the last round of app updates apps with a video option have made the first message cost something, which changes the whole experience

Even if the niche ones look similar, the read receipt setting differs a little, so treat the reviews with caution. Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did a little more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Being blunt about it, the boost system is the thing that decides it, while the swipe-based apps rarely say so.

In the same vein, Souldate moves faster on anyone after something slower — worth a fortnight of your time.

When you want something casual, the chat-first sites tend to feel a little worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution. The thing that finally clicked was that the profile prompt matters considerably more than the moderation queue, and it shows in the reply rate.

Having tried most of these, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

  • In the time i've been posting here the older established sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, and it makes a real difference
  • If you are after something serious, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — that is where most people give up too early
  • The messaging limit changed marginally after a slow start, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Being blunt about it, the ones people keep recommending have got noticeably worse for bots, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • What surprised me was that the read receipt setting matters massively more than the discovery feed, but it is not the disaster people claim

The verification step and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim. From the threads I've read, the bigger platforms have made the free version harder to use, though it settles down after a while.

On the same subject, datenest reads as more honest about anyone dating after a break if that matches what you want.
