Having tried most of these, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that apps with a video option rarely say so. Although the ones people keep recommending look similar, the photo review differs slightly, though it depends heavily on where you live. What are the dating apps like meetme — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Despite the fact that the forum-style sites look similar, the messaging limit differs considerably, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: it filters out the time wasters fast
  • Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the niche ones, which is worth knowing before you sign up

Also been seeing Ezhookups.online pop up in discussions around this. From what I've seen, the swipe-based apps have started throttling messages, though it settles down after a while.

If you are new to this, test two platforms at once — it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

Having tried most of these, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to.

  • Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did a great deal more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Since the last round of app updates I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on the newer sites, and it makes a real difference
  • Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did marginally more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Even if the newer sites look similar, the profile prompt differs massively, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Broadly speaking, the bigger platforms have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, but only if you stick with it

I stuck with the chat-first sites since the start of the year, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered considerably most. When your inbox is dead, the regional platforms tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, though it settles down after a while.

Speaking personally, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: it stops you blaming the app for the profile. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

Since this keeps coming up, Flurrydate's search filters seems better set up for people juggling two apps, judging by what people report here.

My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then avoid opening with a compliment, so results vary more than you'd think.

  • If you keep matching but never talking, avoid opening with a compliment — that is the part that actually moves the needle
  • The thing that finally clicked was that the regional platforms have tightened up the reporting flow across a couple of different accounts
  • The moderation queue and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference
  • Use a recent photo with your face clear, because it filters out the time wasters fast, so treat the reviews with caution
  • In my experience, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than say what you actually want up front

Throughout most of last year the chat-first sites have got noticeably worse for bots, which is worth knowing before you sign up. When you live somewhere dense, the niche ones tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, and nobody warns you about it.

Judging by my own inbox, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than avoid opening with a compliment. Granted the newer sites look similar, the age check differs slightly, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The free tier and the block list pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim. My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then give it a full week before judging, so treat the reviews with caution.

Depending on what you are after, Rendate's messaging setup has fewer complaints about people in smaller towns, so it is worth a look.

I stuck with the older established sites after a slow start, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered marginally most.

  • When you are after something serious, the regional platforms tend to feel considerably worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it
  • The daily match cap and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • The boost system changed a little throughout most of last year, and nobody warns you about it
  • The age check changed somewhat having stuck with it a while, and nobody warns you about it
  • Going by my own attempts, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, though the niche ones rarely say so

Though apps with a video option look similar, the read receipt setting differs considerably, and it shows in the reply rate. In practice, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, even if the chat-first sites rarely say so.

If distance is the sticking point, Datewander works noticeably better for quieter weeknights before you write the whole category off.

When you are new to this, the swipe-based apps tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution. Realistically, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than say what you actually want up front.

If you are in a smaller town, keep the first message short and specific — it filters out the time wasters fast.

My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then test two platforms at once, though it settles down after a while.

  • Broadly speaking, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • From what I've seen, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the forum-style sites rarely say so
  • Having tried most of these, I'd test two platforms at once rather than give it a full week before judging, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • On reflection, the niche ones have made the free version harder to use, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • The detail people skip is that the bigger platforms have made the free version harder to use having stuck with it a while

After a fortnight of testing I noticed the age check behaving differently on the bigger platforms, and that alone put me off. To be fair, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than give it a full week before judging.

Depending on what you are after, Datelink covers similar ground for people juggling two apps, which is not nothing.

Over the last month apps with a strict photo policy have tightened up the reporting flow, so results vary more than you'd think. The part nobody mentions is that the newer sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance throughout most of last year.

Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did somewhat more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

  • Use a recent photo with your face clear, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, but only if you stick with it
  • Over the last month apps with a video option have quietly changed how that works, but only if you stick with it
  • In the last stretch of trying the niche ones have dropped the feature everyone used, which changes the whole experience
  • The photo review changed hardly at all in the time I've been posting here, and nobody warns you about it
  • Platforms like datenest.site are mentioned often in community threads as lower-noise alternatives

Honestly, the free tier is the thing that decides it, while the niche ones rarely say so. Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did somewhat more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Datescout does more than most for the local side of things.
