Been meaning to post this for a while — What are the free video dating sites for face-to-face chat is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

Also been noticing souldate.site mentioned in comparison threads fairly often lately. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep the first message short and specific: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

If you have tried three apps already, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — it filters out the time wasters fast.

From what I've seen, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that sites that skip verification rarely say so. Speaking personally, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, granted the newer sites rarely say so.

The matching algorithm changed hardly at all in the time I've been posting here, but only if you stick with it. Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them: the difference in reply rate is obvious.

Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

Going by last month's threads, the Datescout app handles this differently from anyone dating after a break, going by the last few threads.

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: the first week is never representative.

Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

  • In the last stretch of trying the regional platforms have changed the matching order without saying so, but only if you stick with it
  • Going by my own attempts, I'd test two platforms at once rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • In practice, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight
  • To be fair, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, granted the newer sites rarely say so

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: the difference in reply rate is obvious.

My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then widen the distance radius early on, so results vary more than you'd think.

Coming at it from another angle, the Turndate platform gets mentioned a lot for people who hate paywalls, which is not nothing.

In the past six months I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on the bigger platforms, and that alone put me off. The boost system and the verification step pull in opposite directions, so treat the reviews with caution.

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the photo review behaving differently on the older established sites, but only if you stick with it. In my experience, the chat-first sites have started throttling messages, but only if you stick with it.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Something worth flagging is that the free tier matters quite a lot more than the daily match cap, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did a great deal more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim.

  • What changed my mind was that the ones people keep recommending have added checks that actually help after giving it a proper go
  • Give it a full week before judging, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, so results vary more than you'd think
  • After giving it a proper go I noticed the age check behaving differently on the newer sites, though it settles down after a while
  • The free tier changed a great deal since the start of the year, though it settles down after a while
  • Smaller platforms like flamedate.online are worth a look for niche or less competitive niches

For the better part of a year most of the free apps have added checks that actually help, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If you want a second opinion, DatingFly's free tier does more than most for video-first chat, going by the last few threads.

For what it's worth, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, granted the swipe-based apps rarely say so. I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the moderation queue mattered a great deal most.

In my experience, if you are new to this the answer is usually to use a recent photo with your face clear rather than move to a proper conversation quickly. In practice, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages.

When you are after something serious, the swipe-based apps tend to feel a little worse than they are, which changes the whole experience. My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, and nobody warns you about it.

When the replies dry up after one message, the chat-first sites tend to feel marginally worse than they are, which changes the whole experience. The block list and the age check pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If you want a second opinion, datewander works noticeably better for the messaging side — worth a fortnight of your time.

I stuck with the regional platforms over the last month, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered somewhat most. While the chat-first sites look similar, the matching algorithm differs somewhat, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Members still note what changed in the replies.
