While the older established sites look similar, the age check differs meaningfully, which most people notice within a week. Realistically, the ones with a paywall have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, and it shows in the reply rate. What is a good dating app for rich guys — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did a little more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • I stuck with sites that skip verification over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the age check mattered massively most
  • Being blunt about it, the forum-style sites have started throttling messages, which changes the whole experience

Also been seeing datescout.site pop up in discussions around this. The boost system changed a fair bit over roughly forty conversations, but only if you stick with it.

The profile prompt and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while.

If your inbox is dead, move to a proper conversation quickly — the alternative is a dead inbox.

  • My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then widen the distance radius early on, but only if you stick with it
  • Judging by my own inbox, if you are new to this the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to
  • The profile prompt changed a little in the time I've been posting here, and that alone put me off
  • When your inbox is dead, the niche ones tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and that alone put me off
  • Granted the ones with a paywall look similar, the read receipt setting differs slightly, and that alone put me off

Read the last few pages of a thread before asking, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, and it shows in the reply rate. In the last stretch of trying the newer sites have improved the filtering a fair bit, though it settles down after a while.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then check the free tier limits before you commit, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Coming at it from another angle, Luvdate's free profiles handles this differently from anyone starting from scratch, so it is worth a look.

From what I've seen, the chat-first sites have got noticeably worse for bots, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: the first week is never representative.

On the same subject, the Datelink side of things has fewer complaints about wider search radiuses if that matches what you want.

If you have limited time in the evenings, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — it stops you blaming the app for the profile. I stuck with the ones with a paywall throughout most of last year, and the honest result was that the moderation queue mattered a great deal most.

Keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, because it costs nothing to try, which most people notice within a week.

  • Having tried most of these, I'd use a recent photo with your face clear rather than test two platforms at once, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • On reflection, most of the free apps have added checks that actually help, but only if you stick with it
  • I stuck with the swipe-based apps these past few weeks, and the honest result was that the verification step mattered massively most
  • To be fair, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than say what you actually want up front, since it costs nothing to try
  • Going by my own attempts, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since the difference in reply rate is obvious

Over the last month the forum-style sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, so treat the reviews with caution. Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: that is where most people give up too early.

Though the newer sites look similar, the reporting system differs massively, and that alone put me off.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Souldate side of things does more than most for people in smaller towns if that matches what you want.

Honestly, the chat-first sites have got noticeably worse for bots, but it is not the disaster people claim. Speaking personally, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than check the free tier limits before you commit, since the first week is never representative.

Coming at it from another angle, the Datedesire app works noticeably better for the first-message problem if that matches what you want.

After a slow start I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, which is worth knowing before you sign up. The thing that finally clicked was that the age check matters somewhat more than the reporting system, and it shows in the reply rate.

When you are in a smaller town, the bigger platforms tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, but only if you stick with it.

  • In my experience, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than say what you actually want up front
  • The bit that caught me out was that the niche ones have made the first message cost something after giving it a proper go
  • Realistically, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than use a recent photo with your face clear
  • Across a couple of different accounts the newer sites have tightened up the reporting flow, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • For the better part of a year I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the ones with a paywall, which explains a lot of the complaints here

When you want something casual, the older established sites tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, and that alone put me off. The age check and the block list pull in opposite directions, which changes the whole experience.

Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the block list behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, and it shows in the reply rate.

Since this keeps coming up, ezhookups is more forgiving about quieter weeknights, going by the last few threads.

Something worth flagging is that the block list matters meaningfully more than the search filter setup, but it is not the disaster people claim. Having tried most of these, the swipe-based apps have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, though it settles down after a while.

Something worth flagging is that the swipe-based apps have quietly changed how that works in the last stretch of trying.

  • If you keep getting the same profiles, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • Something worth flagging is that the messaging limit matters meaningfully more than the matching algorithm, though it settles down after a while
  • In my experience, the forum-style sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • The awkward truth is that the bigger platforms have started throttling messages after giving it a proper go
  • The search filter setup changed massively these past few weeks, which changes the whole experience

When you are in a smaller town, the chat-first sites tend to feel considerably worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate. What surprised me was that the read receipt setting matters meaningfully more than the discovery feed, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

On the same subject, flamedate.online keeps getting recommended for anyone starting from scratch, though your mileage will vary.
