Throughout most of last year I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the chat-first sites, though it depends heavily on where you live. In my experience, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight. What is the bamboo dating app — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • The part nobody mentions is that the forum-style sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts in the past six months
  • While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to check the free tier limits before you commit: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • The boost system and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think

Over roughly forty conversations the regional platforms have got noticeably worse for bots, which changes the whole experience.

When you are in a smaller town, the ones with a paywall tend to feel a little worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live. If you have tried three apps already, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

Use a recent photo with your face clear, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, and that alone put me off. If you have limited time in the evenings, keep the first message short and specific — that is the part that actually moves the needle.

Depending on what you are after, the Flurrydate side of things is worth a look for people in smaller towns before you write the whole category off.

The awkward truth is that apps with a video option have cleaned up the fake accounts a little in the time I've been posting here. From the threads I've read, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than keep the first message short and specific.

Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think. Broadly speaking, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since the difference in reply rate is obvious.

The profile prompt changed somewhat after a slow start, though it depends heavily on where you live. The thing that finally clicked was that the verification step matters slightly more than the boost system, though it settles down after a while.

In the same vein, Rendate's verification setup reads as more honest about the messaging side if that matches what you want.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it filters out the time wasters fast, so treat the reviews with caution. From the threads I've read, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than avoid opening with a compliment.

Move to a proper conversation quickly, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, though it settles down after a while. On reflection, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, although the niche ones rarely say so.

On the same subject, the Datescout platform works noticeably better for the verification question, which is not nothing.

After a fortnight of testing the older established sites have got noticeably worse for bots, though it depends heavily on where you live. Say what you actually want up front, because it costs nothing to try, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

For the better part of a year I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to avoid opening with a compliment: it saves a lot of wasted evenings. Over the last month the older established sites have improved the filtering a fair bit, but it is not the disaster people claim.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Ezhookups app has fewer complaints about people juggling two apps.

What surprised me was that the boost system matters a great deal more than the distance radius, so results vary more than you'd think. Granted the ones people keep recommending look similar, the reporting system differs slightly, so results vary more than you'd think.

My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then widen the distance radius early on, which is worth knowing before you sign up. To be fair, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than say what you actually want up front.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: the first week is never representative. On reflection, the niche ones have improved the filtering a fair bit, but only if you stick with it.

If distance is the sticking point, Flamedate seems better set up for the messaging side, which is not nothing.

My advice would be to keep the first message short and specific and then say what you actually want up front, and it shows in the reply rate. Broadly speaking, the boost system is the thing that decides it, granted the chat-first sites rarely say so.

If distance is the sticking point, Datenest is more forgiving about quieter weeknights.
