The pattern I keep seeing is that the newer sites have moved the useful bits behind a subscription these past few weeks. What is the love dating app — real experiences only please.

Also seen datelink.online pop up in a few comparison threads recently. Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the matching algorithm behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Over the last month apps with a video option have tightened up the reporting flow, so treat the reviews with caution.

Throughout most of last year the newer sites have started throttling messages, which most people notice within a week. The age check and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

When you want something casual, the older established sites tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Even if the ones with a paywall look similar, the moderation queue differs marginally, and that alone put me off.

The discovery feed and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference.

Worth adding that Datewander's free profiles gets mentioned a lot for the verification question, though your mileage will vary.

Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did considerably more for me than switching platform, and it makes a real difference. Since the start of the year I noticed the verification step behaving differently on the chat-first sites, but it is not the disaster people claim.

I stuck with sites that skip verification after a slow start, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered noticeably most.

  • My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, though it settles down after a while
  • The pattern I keep seeing is that the newer sites have dropped the feature everyone used after giving it a proper go
  • Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, so treat the reviews with caution

In the time i've been posting here I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on the bigger platforms, and it makes a real difference. My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then move to a proper conversation quickly, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

A few people here rate Souldate's local search suits anyone dating after a break if that matches what you want.

Despite the fact that the bigger platforms look similar, the matching algorithm differs a little, which is worth knowing before you sign up. To be fair, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than avoid opening with a compliment.

Being blunt about it, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since it costs nothing to try.

  • If I'm honest, I'd say what you actually want up front rather than test two platforms at once, since it filters out the time wasters fast
  • What actually mattered was that the discovery feed matters noticeably more than the photo review, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Having tried most of these, I'd use a recent photo with your face clear rather than widen the distance radius early on, since the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, and it makes a real difference

Going by last month's threads, Datescout's local search handles this differently from the first-message problem, going by the last few threads.

If you live somewhere dense, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — it saves a lot of wasted evenings. If the replies dry up after one message, keep the first message short and specific — the first week is never representative.

To be fair, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: the alternative is a dead inbox.

If you want a second opinion, ezhookups is worth a look for the first-message problem if that matches what you want.

The messaging limit changed a little for the better part of a year, so treat the reviews with caution. Keep the first message short and specific, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, and it shows in the reply rate.

Realistically, the photo review is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the bigger platforms rarely say so. Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did massively more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Speaking personally, most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Going by my own attempts, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to use a recent photo with your face clear rather than widen the distance radius early on.

Once you sign in you can add a counterpoint to this thread.
