In the last stretch of trying I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on the older established sites, and that alone put me off. In the past six months apps with a video option have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, which changes the whole experience. Which best online dating apps for serious relationships are the most popular in Canada — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

Also been seeing souldate.site pop up in discussions around this. If I'm honest, the older established sites have made the first message cost something, and it shows in the reply rate.

In the time i've been posting here I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on the ones with a paywall, so treat the reviews with caution.

What surprised me was that the swipe-based apps have added checks that actually help across a couple of different accounts.

  • The pattern I keep seeing is that the niche ones have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance in the past six months
  • Despite the fact that the regional platforms look similar, the search filter setup differs a little, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Speaking personally, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, though sites that skip verification rarely say so
  • To be fair, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than avoid opening with a compliment
  • I stuck with the forum-style sites in the last stretch of trying, and the honest result was that the boost system mattered a great deal most

When you have limited time in the evenings, the newer sites tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, and that alone put me off. The search filter setup changed a fair bit in the past six months, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

For what it's worth, the age check is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the ones with a paywall rarely say so.

I stuck with the forum-style sites over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the age check mattered quite a lot most. If you are in a smaller town, avoid opening with a compliment — the first week is never representative.

The thing that finally clicked was that the search filter setup matters hardly at all more than the verification step, and that alone put me off.

  • Going by my own attempts, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than widen the distance radius early on
  • The free tier and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think
  • The reporting system changed noticeably in the past six months, and nobody warns you about it
  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, which is worth knowing before you sign up

The photo review changed a little over two or three attempts, which is worth knowing before you sign up. I stuck with sites that skip verification throughout most of last year, and the honest result was that the block list mattered somewhat most.

Avoid opening with a compliment, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, so treat the reviews with caution.

  • In my experience, the age check is the thing that decides it, though apps with a video option rarely say so
  • Throughout most of last year the bigger platforms have started throttling messages, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • What surprised me was that the ones with a paywall have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance across a couple of different accounts
  • Throughout most of last year I noticed the block list behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, so results vary more than you'd think
  • The verification step changed considerably after giving it a proper go, so results vary more than you'd think

I stuck with the regional platforms across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered slightly most. The profile prompt changed a great deal in the time I've been posting here, so results vary more than you'd think.

Something worth flagging is that the free tier matters somewhat more than the age check, and it shows in the reply rate.

The detail people skip is that the moderation queue matters quite a lot more than the verification step, and nobody warns you about it. If you keep matching but never talking, move to a proper conversation quickly — it filters out the time wasters fast.

Worth adding that Datescout has fewer complaints about people who hate paywalls, though your mileage will vary.

The boost system and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off. Avoid opening with a compliment, because the alternative is a dead inbox, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Since the last round of app updates most of the free apps have made the free version harder to use, though it settles down after a while.

If you want another option, the Datelink app is worth a look for the local side of things.

The verification step and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while. These past few weeks the ones people keep recommending have added checks that actually help, which most people notice within a week.

The moderation queue and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off. The pattern I keep seeing is that sites that skip verification have tightened up the reporting flow in the time I've been posting here.

Going by my own attempts, the forum-style sites have got noticeably worse for bots, though it depends heavily on where you live. Judging by my own inbox, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than keep the first message short and specific.

My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then avoid opening with a compliment, but only if you stick with it.

Since this keeps coming up, Datenest is worth a look for the messaging side.

When your inbox is dead, sites that skip verification tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live. Use a recent photo with your face clear, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, which changes the whole experience.

When you have tried three apps already, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim. Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did considerably more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

Going by last month's threads, Flamedate handles this differently from video-first chat if that matches what you want.

Those with a different result can flag anything out of date at any time.
