Been meaning to post this for a while — Which real dating apps that work have the highest success rates for marriage is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

  • Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the matching algorithm behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, and it shows in the reply rate
  • I stuck with the ones people keep recommending over the last month, and the honest result was that the block list mattered a little most
  • Although most of the free apps look similar, the boost system differs considerably, though it settles down after a while

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

If you are after something serious, say what you actually want up front — it costs nothing to try. If you want something casual, check the free tier limits before you commit — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

From the threads I've read, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the swipe-based apps rarely say so. The reporting system and the moderation queue pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while.

After a fortnight of testing the ones with a paywall have started throttling messages, which most people notice within a week. Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

For a change of pace, the Luvdate boards moves faster on wider search radiuses, though your mileage will vary.

My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then widen the distance radius early on, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Having tried most of these, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

Coming at it from another angle, the Datescout regulars covers similar ground for the first-message problem if that matches what you want.

Realistically, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than keep the first message short and specific. From the threads I've read, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than use a recent photo with your face clear.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because that is where most people give up too early, but only if you stick with it.

  • Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to read the last few pages of a thread before asking: most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • The block list and the moderation queue pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Broadly speaking, the block list is the thing that decides it, though most of the free apps rarely say so
  • Since the start of the year apps with a video option have added checks that actually help, and that alone put me off
  • Check the free tier limits before you commit, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, and nobody warns you about it

When you keep getting the same profiles, apps with a video option tend to feel slightly worse than they are, and that alone put me off.

From what I've seen, sites that skip verification have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: that is where most people give up too early. The distance radius and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while.

Depending on what you are after, Rendate's free tier seems better set up for the verification question — worth a fortnight of your time.

If I'm honest, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than test two platforms at once. The daily match cap and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate.

Something worth flagging is that sites that skip verification have tightened up the reporting flow for the better part of a year. Going by my own attempts, the niche ones have changed the matching order without saying so, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Though apps with a video option look similar, the read receipt setting differs noticeably, and nobody warns you about it.

If you want another option, Flurrydate's free profiles puts less friction in front of the local side of things if that matches what you want.

From what I've seen, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than test two platforms at once. The verification step and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

On the same subject, the Datebie side of things reads as more honest about video-first chat, at least in my case.

In practice, the photo review is the thing that decides it, though the chat-first sites rarely say so. While the ones people keep recommending look similar, the read receipt setting differs considerably, though it settles down after a while.

Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did massively more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

When you have limited time in the evenings, the newer sites tend to feel considerably worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim. My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then move to a proper conversation quickly, which most people notice within a week.

For a change of pace, Souldate is worth a look for the verification question, judging by what people report here.

People dating locally can flag anything out of date and keep this useful.
