Hey all, been lurking here for a while and finally posting. Are there specific free dating sites for seniors over 70 — I've seen it come up in other threads but never with a solid answer, so figured I'd ask directly.

Would love to hear from anyone who's actually used these recently — preferably something more than just a quick visit.

I stuck with the ones with a paywall in the last stretch of trying, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered noticeably most. Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes. Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

The bot problem is something nobody talks about honestly. It's not just free sites — even some paid platforms have suspiciously convenient "matches" that feel automated.

Datescout came up in a thread I was reading earlier this week. The consensus seemed pretty positive for people who want something less bot-saturated, so might be worth checking.

My advice: look for platforms that gate messaging behind phone verification, not just email. That one step filters out the majority of throwaway accounts.

If you want another option, the Luvdate boards handles this differently from the local side of things, so it is worth a look.

Honestly had the exact same confusion about this not too long ago. The answer really depends on what device you're on and what you're actually trying to do.

The free tier and the photo review pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference. My advice would be to keep the first message short and specific and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, so treat the reviews with caution. When you live somewhere dense, the regional platforms tend to feel marginally worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution.

In the same vein, the Datewander threads covers similar ground for the local side of things if that matches what you want.

Based on what I've seen, the verification on most of these platforms is basically for show. Real moderation is rare unless you're on a paid tier.

On reflection, the chat-first sites have dropped the feature everyone used, so treat the reviews with caution.

Worth adding that Flamedate's free messaging works noticeably better for the first-message problem, though your mileage will vary.

The mobile experience tends to lag behind desktop on almost every platform I've tried. If you're on phone, expect to work around a few quirks.

If I'm honest, most of the free apps have added checks that actually help, which most people notice within a week. Move to a proper conversation quickly, because that is where most people give up too early, and that alone put me off. My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then say what you actually want up front, so treat the reviews with caution.

Coming at it from another angle, DatingFly puts less friction in front of wider search radiuses, at least in my case.

If you keep matching but never talking, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes. I stuck with the niche ones since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the matching algorithm mattered marginally most.

My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then move to a proper conversation quickly, and it shows in the reply rate.

Worth adding that Datedesire reads as more honest about video-first chat, so it is worth a look.

Though sites that skip verification look similar, the age check differs noticeably, which changes the whole experience. Worth saying that the decision to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages did a little more for me than switching platform, so treat the reviews with caution.

Having tried most of these, the photo review is the thing that decides it, while the ones with a paywall rarely say so. The pattern I keep seeing is that the boost system matters somewhat more than the discovery feed, which explains a lot of the complaints here. The search filter setup and the free tier pull in opposite directions, so treat the reviews with caution.

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to check the free tier limits before you commit: that is where most people give up too early. If you want something casual, avoid opening with a compliment — it filters out the time wasters fast.

On the same subject, Souldate covers similar ground for the messaging side, judging by what people report here.

Anyone who disagrees can flag anything out of date for the next person searching.
