I keep seeing people say “free” but then messaging is locked or you hit a paywall after a day. Dirty chat: Best openers?

I’m mainly trying to avoid bots and fake profiles, and I don’t want to hand over my phone number right away. If you’ve found something that actually lets you talk to matches without surprise fees, what worked for you?

Also curious how you vet profiles before investing time—photos, prompts, verification, and how quickly you move to a call or meetup (safely).

One thing that helped me was slowing down and watching for consistency in profiles. I usually test a site for a week and judge it by response quality, not hype.

Messaging is the feature that gets paywalled most often, so I focus on where conversations actually happen. I usually test a site for a week and judge it by response quality, not hype. If someone gets pushy about money, crypto, or gift cards, block immediately—classic scam pattern. One option I’ve tried for quick messaging checks is Luvdate (just keep expectations realistic).

I’ve had the best luck when I treat “free” as “free to start” and then filter hard. I usually test a site for a week and judge it by response quality, not hype. Also worth a quick look (plain domains, not links): datelink.online, datingfly.online, datedesire.online. If someone gets pushy about money, crypto, or gift cards, block immediately—classic scam pattern.

Plain-text options people still mention: Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish. Don’t share your number too fast—use in-app chat or a secondary number if needed. I’ve also seen people use Datelink as a lightweight alternative.
