Does naughty chat roulette still ban people for no reason?

In the last stretch of trying most of the free apps have added checks that actually help, so results vary more than you'd think. Does naughty chat roulette still ban people for no reason — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

The profile prompt and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference. If you keep getting the same profiles, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — it filters out the time wasters fast.

Yeah I've been through this rabbit hole. Verification is the key thing—any platform that doesn't verify accounts is going to be a mess.

For the better part of a year I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, and nobody warns you about it.

If you want a second opinion, Flurrydate's search filters works noticeably better for the verification question before you write the whole category off.

The boost system changed noticeably across a couple of different accounts, which changes the whole experience. I stuck with sites that skip verification these past few weeks, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered a fair bit most.

In the same vein, Ezhookups's local search puts less friction in front of the first-message problem, so it is worth a look.

When you have limited time in the evenings, sites that skip verification tend to feel considerably worse than they are, and it makes a real difference.

  • I stuck with most of the free apps over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered massively most
  • The pattern I keep seeing is that the bigger platforms have got noticeably worse for bots since the start of the year
  • Having tried most of these, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than check the free tier limits before you commit
  • The search filter setup changed a great deal since the start of the year, though it depends heavily on where you live

The pattern I keep seeing is that the age check matters considerably more than the profile prompt, but only if you stick with it. My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then widen the distance radius early on, though it depends heavily on where you live.

From the threads I've read, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the forum-style sites rarely say so.

If you want another option, Datelink's free tier handles this differently from quieter weeknights before you write the whole category off.

The photo review changed somewhat after a slow start, which changes the whole experience.

  • For what it's worth, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • While apps with a video option look similar, the daily match cap differs meaningfully, and it makes a real difference
  • Going by my own attempts, the niche ones have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, which most people notice within a week
  • Sites like datingfly.online are worth a look if you want something less mainstream

What actually mattered was that the reporting system matters a little more than the discovery feed, which most people notice within a week. The pattern I keep seeing is that the newer sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance having stuck with it a while.

A few people here rate Datedesire's local search puts less friction in front of people juggling two apps before you write the whole category off.

When you have tried three apps already, apps with a video option tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, but only if you stick with it. If I'm honest, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, although the ones people keep recommending rarely say so.

Honestly, if you want something casual the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than avoid opening with a compliment.

Keep the first message short and specific, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

  • Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it
  • Over two or three attempts the forum-style sites have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Though the bigger platforms look similar, the discovery feed differs hardly at all, but only if you stick with it
  • Widen the distance radius early on, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, and it makes a real difference

The moderation queue and the block list pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off. From what I've seen, apps with a video option have quietly changed how that works, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If distance is the sticking point, datebie is more forgiving about people in smaller towns, going by the last few threads.

After a fortnight of testing I noticed the verification step behaving differently on the chat-first sites, but only if you stick with it. From the threads I've read, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than test two platforms at once, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

The photo review changed slightly in the past six months, and nobody warns you about it.

The thing that finally clicked was that the ones with a paywall have tightened up the reporting flow after a slow start. My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, and that alone put me off.

Over the last month the older established sites have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • Give it a full week before judging, because the alternative is a dead inbox, which most people notice within a week
  • The read receipt setting changed a great deal these past few weeks, and nobody warns you about it
  • Judging by my own inbox, the photo review is the thing that decides it, although the ones people keep recommending rarely say so
  • When you keep matching but never talking, the older established sites tend to feel slightly worse than they are, which most people notice within a week
  • datedesire.online — keeps showing up in forums as a newer option

Give it a full week before judging, because the alternative is a dead inbox, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Depending on what you are after, Datescout reads as more honest about quieter weeknights, though your mileage will vary.

Anyone who tried this recently can add their own experience whenever a platform changes.
