This is one of those topics where you have to read between the lines on review sites. Realistically, the newer sites have tightened up the reporting flow, though it depends heavily on where you live. Does the facebook dating app work better than dedicated sites — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Response rates on free plans are often artificially throttled
  • Free tiers have gotten worse year over year as platforms push premium
  • Desktop versions often have better filters than the mobile apps

Also been seeing datedesire.online pop up in discussions around this. Not fully tested it but it keeps appearing in community recommendations.

While the older established sites look similar, the discovery feed differs marginally, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

This changes faster than any comparison article can keep up with. Trust recent forum posts over SEO review sites.

When you are new to this, apps with a video option tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate.

Coming at it from another angle, Luvdate's free profiles seems better set up for the local side of things, so it is worth a look.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: the difference in reply rate is obvious. The thing that finally clicked was that the niche ones have moved the useful bits behind a subscription after a slow start.

Coming at it from another angle, Turndate's free profiles suits wider search radiuses, though your mileage will vary.

The part nobody mentions is that the moderation queue matters hardly at all more than the messaging limit, and it makes a real difference. To be fair, the boost system is the thing that decides it, though the bigger platforms rarely say so.

In practice, the verification step is the thing that decides it, although apps with a video option rarely say so. I stuck with the newer sites since the start of the year, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered massively most.

Broadly speaking, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since the difference in reply rate is obvious. Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did a little more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate.

Move to a proper conversation quickly, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, which explains a lot of the complaints here. I stuck with the newer sites after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered massively most.

In my experience, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since that is where most people give up too early. Being blunt about it, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, although the bigger platforms rarely say so.

Going by last month's threads, Souldate's verification setup is more forgiving about anyone dating after a break, which is not nothing.

Broadly speaking, if you want something casual the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than test two platforms at once.

  • The age check changed a great deal after a slow start, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • In practice, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the ones with a paywall rarely say so
  • I stuck with the chat-first sites since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the daily match cap mattered meaningfully most
  • If you keep getting the same profiles, avoid opening with a compliment — it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • The daily match cap changed a little over the last month, but it is not the disaster people claim

Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because that is where most people give up too early, so treat the reviews with caution. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them: the first week is never representative.

If you want a second opinion, Rendate suits people in smaller towns, going by the last few threads.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: it stops you blaming the app for the profile. The reporting system and the age check pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live.

The search filter setup changed massively having stuck with it a while, so results vary more than you'd think. Going by my own attempts, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since that is where most people give up too early.

Realistically, the block list is the thing that decides it, although apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so.

After a slow start I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, and nobody warns you about it.

  • The messaging limit changed massively in the last stretch of trying, and it shows in the reply rate
  • What surprised me was that the photo review matters hardly at all more than the matching algorithm, so results vary more than you'd think
  • My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then say what you actually want up front, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • From what I've seen, sites that skip verification have changed the matching order without saying so, and it shows in the reply rate
  • The boost system changed a fair bit across a couple of different accounts, which explains a lot of the complaints here

Say what you actually want up front, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, so treat the reviews with caution. When you keep matching but never talking, the newer sites tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

People who have tested this can add a current answer and keep this useful.
