Tried researching this on my own but every review site seems to have an angle. Has anyone tried the am dating site (is it Ashley Madison)

  • The "last active" filter is your single best tool on any platform
  • Age verification is inconsistent — some platforms are serious about it, others aren't
  • Most platforms throttle free tier visibility to push upgrades

I stuck with the regional platforms for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the age check mattered noticeably most.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: it filters out the time wasters fast. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, but only if you stick with it. While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them: the alternative is a dead inbox.

Bot density is directly tied to how easy the sign-up process is. Stricter verification almost always means better conversation quality.

In practice, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than widen the distance radius early on, since the difference in reply rate is obvious.

If you want another option, the Datelink side of things is worth a look for anyone dating after a break before you write the whole category off.

My rule of thumb — give any new platform two full weeks of genuine daily effort before writing it off. One session tells you almost nothing.

Granted the newer sites look similar, the moderation queue differs a little, so results vary more than you'd think. I stuck with the older established sites over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the reporting system mattered quite a lot most. The daily match cap changed quite a lot after giving it a proper go, so treat the reviews with caution.

Depending on what you are after, the Datescout app puts less friction in front of the verification question, judging by what people report here.

In practice, sites that skip verification have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, which is worth knowing before you sign up. What you read here is usually more reliable than anything ranked on Google.

My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then give it a full week before judging, and it makes a real difference.

Depending on what you are after, Datebie's search filters does more than most for quieter weeknights, so it is worth a look.

If you have tried three apps already, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes. In the last stretch of trying I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, and it makes a real difference.

Worth saying that the decision to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages did marginally more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim. Speaking personally, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than move to a proper conversation quickly.

In the time i've been posting here I noticed the reporting system behaving differently on the regional platforms, though it settles down after a while. Since the last round of app updates I noticed the block list behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, and nobody warns you about it. The matching algorithm and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Going by last month's threads, Ezhookups works noticeably better for the verification question, which is not nothing.

From the threads I've read, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than test two platforms at once, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

  • Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • After giving it a proper go the regional platforms have started throttling messages, and it shows in the reply rate
  • I stuck with apps with a video option after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the block list mattered hardly at all most
  • Being blunt about it, apps with a video option have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, but only if you stick with it

My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, and it makes a real difference.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datenest forums puts less friction in front of the first-message problem, at least in my case.

Anyone with recent experience can note what changed for the next person searching.
