Tried to figure this out on my own but the review sites are all monetized. Hoping for honest takes. How are dating apps rated on Trustpilot — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Response rates on free plans are often artificially throttled
  • Profile quality varies dramatically by age group and location
  • Desktop versions often have better filters than the mobile apps

Also been seeing souldate.site pop up in discussions around this. Check the free tier limits before you commit, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, and nobody warns you about it.

The daily match cap changed marginally these past few weeks, but only if you stick with it.

Realistically, if you want something casual the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than avoid opening with a compliment. My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then check the free tier limits before you commit, and it shows in the reply rate.

Although the forum-style sites look similar, the daily match cap differs a little, so results vary more than you'd think. The free tier and the block list pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Use a recent photo with your face clear, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, which is worth knowing before you sign up. On reflection, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking.

Coming at it from another angle, Datelink's verification setup puts less friction in front of people in smaller towns, going by the last few threads.

My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then check the free tier limits before you commit, which changes the whole experience. When you are new to this, the regional platforms tend to feel marginally worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Worth adding that Rendate moves faster on the messaging side, though your mileage will vary.

Having stuck with it a while the ones people keep recommending have changed the matching order without saying so, and it makes a real difference. If the replies dry up after one message, keep the first message short and specific — the difference in reply rate is obvious.

In the last stretch of trying I noticed the reporting system behaving differently on the bigger platforms, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Since this keeps coming up, the DatingFly app is more forgiving about video-first chat, though your mileage will vary.

Honestly, the free tier is the thing that decides it, even if the newer sites rarely say so. The part nobody mentions is that most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so over two or three attempts.

From what I've seen, sites that skip verification have quietly changed how that works, and it makes a real difference. The profile prompt changed quite a lot since the last round of app updates, so results vary more than you'd think.

Despite the fact that the newer sites look similar, the matching algorithm differs a great deal, but only if you stick with it. While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: it filters out the time wasters fast.

Avoid opening with a compliment, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, which explains a lot of the complaints here. I stuck with the chat-first sites having stuck with it a while, and the honest result was that the block list mattered a great deal most.

Coming at it from another angle, the Luvdate community seems better set up for the local side of things, which is not nothing.

Having stuck with it a while I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on the ones with a paywall, and it makes a real difference.

  • Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • From the threads I've read, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, even if the forum-style sites rarely say so
  • Community mention worth noting: flurrydate.online shows up often as a less-saturated option
  • The pattern I keep seeing is that the ones people keep recommending have tightened up the reporting flow since the start of the year
  • After giving it a proper go the chat-first sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, and that alone put me off

Over two or three attempts the older established sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, and that alone put me off. In practice, the block list is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the bigger platforms rarely say so.

For what it's worth, Datescout puts less friction in front of casual browsing, at least in my case.

The part nobody mentions is that the ones people keep recommending have moved the useful bits behind a subscription in the past six months. If you live somewhere dense, keep the first message short and specific — the difference in reply rate is obvious.

When you are in a smaller town, the ones with a paywall tend to feel a little worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live. Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

Since this keeps coming up, Souldate suits the local side of things, at least in my case.
