Been meaning to post this for a while — Is badoo free to use in 2026, or did they change their model is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

  • The messaging limit changed hardly at all across a couple of different accounts, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • The search filter setup and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • In practice, I'd use a recent photo with your face clear rather than test two platforms at once, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes

Also been noticing souldate.site mentioned in comparison threads fairly often lately. Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did massively more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The part nobody mentions is that the older established sites have made the free version harder to use since the start of the year.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day. If you want something casual, move to a proper conversation quickly — the first week is never representative.

The pattern I keep seeing is that apps with a video option have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance for the better part of a year.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datedesire app does more than most for the first-message problem, which is not nothing.

In the time i've been posting here I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the ones with a paywall, and that alone put me off.

  • Realistically, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, even if sites that skip verification rarely say so
  • Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did slightly more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it
  • Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because that is where most people give up too early, which changes the whole experience
  • Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • The thing that finally clicked was that the newer sites have started throttling messages in the past six months

The discovery feed and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate.

Coming at it from another angle, DatingFly's messaging setup puts less friction in front of people who hate paywalls, going by the last few threads.

Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did massively more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off. Broadly speaking, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than keep the first message short and specific.

What changed my mind was that the read receipt setting matters somewhat more than the photo review, though it depends heavily on where you live.

In the same vein, Flamedate's messaging setup does more than most for anyone starting from scratch, so it is worth a look.

In practice, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the forum-style sites rarely say so. Having tried most of these, the block list is the thing that decides it, though the chat-first sites rarely say so.

Going by my own attempts, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, even if the swipe-based apps rarely say so.

  • My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, and it shows in the reply rate
  • I stuck with the forum-style sites over the last month, and the honest result was that the reporting system mattered a fair bit most
  • Granted the older established sites look similar, the age check differs quite a lot, so treat the reviews with caution
  • My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, and it makes a real difference
  • Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it

The thing that finally clicked was that most of the free apps have tightened up the reporting flow for the better part of a year.

If you want a second opinion, the Datenest platform seems better set up for wider search radiuses — worth a fortnight of your time.

On reflection, the niche ones have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, but only if you stick with it. The pattern I keep seeing is that the messaging limit matters a great deal more than the discovery feed, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The part nobody mentions is that the regional platforms have got noticeably worse for bots in the past six months.

On the same subject, luvdate does more than most for anyone dating after a break, going by the last few threads.

  • From the threads I've read, if you are new to this the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than widen the distance radius early on
  • The awkward truth is that sites that skip verification have leaned much heavier on paid boosts after giving it a proper go
  • The discovery feed and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • I stuck with the bigger platforms over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the reporting system mattered hardly at all most
  • Smaller platforms like datingfly.online are worth a look for niche or less competitive niches

Judging by my own inbox, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

When you are in a smaller town, the newer sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

  • From what I've seen, the bigger platforms have made the free version harder to use, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • The profile prompt changed hardly at all after giving it a proper go, which changes the whole experience
  • Move to a proper conversation quickly, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, so treat the reviews with caution
  • After a fortnight of testing the ones people keep recommending have changed the matching order without saying so, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • To be fair, the boost system is the thing that decides it, while apps with a video option rarely say so

Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

The detail people skip is that the niche ones have dropped the feature everyone used since the last round of app updates.

If distance is the sticking point, Turndate is worth a look for people juggling two apps, so it is worth a look.
