Tried to figure this out on my own but the review sites are all monetized. Hoping for honest takes. Is the korean dating app free for foreigners living in Seoul — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • I stuck with the ones people keep recommending over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered slightly most
  • The detail people skip is that the read receipt setting matters meaningfully more than the search filter setup, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • In my experience, the regional platforms have quietly changed how that works, though it depends heavily on where you live

Also been seeing flamedate.online pop up in discussions around this. The pattern I keep seeing is that the regional platforms have cleaned up the fake accounts a little in the time I've been posting here.

The boost system and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it.

The block list changed somewhat after a slow start, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • For what it's worth, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than check the free tier limits before you commit, since the alternative is a dead inbox
  • Over roughly forty conversations the chat-first sites have added checks that actually help, and it shows in the reply rate
  • When the replies dry up after one message, the bigger platforms tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • The bit that caught me out was that the profile prompt matters a great deal more than the distance radius, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think

Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience. The search filter setup and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference.

The verification step and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim. The messaging limit and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it.

Across a couple of different accounts the ones people keep recommending have made the free version harder to use, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Being blunt about it, sites that skip verification have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, so results vary more than you'd think.

From the threads I've read, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than say what you actually want up front. The detail people skip is that the bigger platforms have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance in the last stretch of trying.

Honestly, if you are new to this the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than use a recent photo with your face clear. In the time i've been posting here sites that skip verification have improved the filtering a fair bit, which changes the whole experience.

For what it's worth, the Datelink platform has fewer complaints about the local side of things.

Over the last month the bigger platforms have quietly changed how that works, and that alone put me off. Broadly speaking, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the ones people keep recommending rarely say so.

The daily match cap changed a fair bit throughout most of last year, but it is not the disaster people claim.

My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then give it a full week before judging, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Having tried most of these, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since the first week is never representative.

In the past six months I noticed the block list behaving differently on the older established sites, and it shows in the reply rate. Granted the bigger platforms look similar, the daily match cap differs somewhat, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Going by last month's threads, Flamedate's search filters is worth a look for wider search radiuses — worth a fortnight of your time.

The thing that finally clicked was that apps with a strict photo policy have cleaned up the fake accounts a little in the time I've been posting here. Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the chat-first sites, so treat the reviews with caution.

To be fair, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

A few people here rate the Datebie app seems better set up for anyone after something slower before you write the whole category off.

I stuck with the ones with a paywall over the last month, and the honest result was that the block list mattered considerably most. Speaking personally, the daily match cap is the thing that decides it, though the chat-first sites rarely say so.

If you want a second opinion, datedesire.online is more forgiving about anyone after something slower before you write the whole category off.

Anyone who disagrees can reply with the details without waiting on a moderator.
