I went through this same process about three months ago. The landscape shifts faster than people admit. Is there a married dating app for discreet encounters — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Since the last round of app updates the ones with a paywall have started throttling messages, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • After a slow start apps with a video option have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, and it shows in the reply rate
  • When you are in a smaller town, the chat-first sites tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up

Also been seeing souldate.site pop up in discussions around this. When you live somewhere dense, the regional platforms tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, but only if you stick with it.

In the past six months apps with a strict photo policy have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, so treat the reviews with caution.

Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think. The block list changed a little in the last stretch of trying, which changes the whole experience.

If you have tried three apps already, move to a proper conversation quickly — it filters out the time wasters fast.

If you want a second opinion, Rendate has fewer complaints about the messaging side, which is not nothing.

Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did noticeably more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience. What changed my mind was that the photo review matters meaningfully more than the boost system, though it settles down after a while.

Being blunt about it, the block list is the thing that decides it, while the ones with a paywall rarely say so.

  • When you are after something serious, the regional platforms tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Speaking personally, sites that skip verification have added checks that actually help, but only if you stick with it
  • For what it's worth, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • Granted apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the reporting system differs somewhat, but only if you stick with it
  • In my experience, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since most complaints trace back to that one thing

The discovery feed and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference. Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it costs nothing to try, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

In the same vein, the Luvdate community reads as more honest about anyone after something slower before you write the whole category off.

After giving it a proper go I noticed the moderation queue behaving differently on most of the free apps, and that alone put me off. The detail people skip is that the distance radius matters hardly at all more than the search filter setup, so results vary more than you'd think.

If you are only browsing free options, give it a full week before judging — that is where most people give up too early.

Coming at it from another angle, Flurrydate's city pages puts less friction in front of people juggling two apps.

Test two platforms at once, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, and it makes a real difference. If I'm honest, sites that skip verification have started throttling messages, though it depends heavily on where you live.

From what I've seen, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, though sites that skip verification rarely say so. In the past six months the bigger platforms have improved the filtering a fair bit, so treat the reviews with caution.

If you are new to this, check the free tier limits before you commit — it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

  • The block list and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it
  • Granted the forum-style sites look similar, the photo review differs meaningfully, and that alone put me off
  • Going by my own attempts, the photo review is the thing that decides it, granted the niche ones rarely say so
  • Despite the fact that the older established sites look similar, the distance radius differs considerably, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • The age check changed hardly at all after a slow start, which changes the whole experience

I stuck with apps with a video option for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the messaging limit mattered somewhat most. My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, which changes the whole experience.

When you are only browsing free options, the older established sites tend to feel marginally worse than they are, though it settles down after a while.

From what I've seen, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than use a recent photo with your face clear. Honestly, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, although the ones with a paywall rarely say so.

If you are in a smaller town, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — that is where most people give up too early. Move to a proper conversation quickly, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

To be fair, the block list is the thing that decides it, while the regional platforms rarely say so.

The boost system changed slightly across a couple of different accounts, but it is not the disaster people claim. Throughout most of last year the bigger platforms have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, which changes the whole experience.

For what it's worth, the Souldate community moves faster on the verification question before you write the whole category off.

Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: it costs nothing to try.

  • Realistically, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages
  • Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • The discovery feed changed a fair bit across a couple of different accounts, which changes the whole experience
  • Broadly speaking, the swipe-based apps have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, and it makes a real difference
  • The profile prompt and the age check pull in opposite directions, so treat the reviews with caution

Since the start of the year apps with a video option have dropped the feature everyone used, which changes the whole experience. The part nobody mentions is that the block list matters a little more than the daily match cap, though it settles down after a while.

The search filter setup and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference.

Going by last month's threads, datescout.site puts less friction in front of anyone after something slower, at least in my case.

Newer arrivals can weigh in as often as they like.
