Been meaning to post this for a while — Is there a reliable app to get a date tonight is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

  • Honestly, I'd give it a full week before judging rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since the first week is never representative
  • Having stuck with it a while the forum-style sites have made the free version harder to use, so results vary more than you'd think
  • When you are only browsing free options, the forum-style sites tend to feel massively worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate

Also been noticing datedesire.online mentioned in comparison threads fairly often lately. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

The daily match cap changed quite a lot after giving it a proper go, and it makes a real difference.

Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did considerably more for me than switching platform, though it settles down after a while. After a fortnight of testing the regional platforms have got noticeably worse for bots, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

The read receipt setting changed considerably having stuck with it a while, which most people notice within a week. Although the regional platforms look similar, the age check differs somewhat, so results vary more than you'd think.

On reflection, the ones people keep recommending have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, and it makes a real difference.

In the same vein, Turndate's city pages does more than most for casual browsing, though your mileage will vary.

Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: it filters out the time wasters fast. Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it.

For what it's worth, the newer Souldate rooms keeps getting recommended for anyone after something slower, at least in my case.

If you live somewhere dense, keep the first message short and specific — the alternative is a dead inbox. Broadly speaking, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than test two platforms at once.

The photo review changed considerably since the last round of app updates, and that alone put me off. From what I've seen, the regional platforms have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it settles down after a while.

From what I've seen, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than give it a full week before judging, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day. Though the chat-first sites look similar, the block list differs a great deal, so treat the reviews with caution.

Worth adding that the Datewander boards handles this differently from wider search radiuses, at least in my case.

If you are in a smaller town, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — that is the part that actually moves the needle. Read the last few pages of a thread before asking, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, but only if you stick with it.

Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did considerably more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off. Since the start of the year I noticed the age check behaving differently on apps with a video option, and nobody warns you about it.

Worth adding that the Flurrydate community reads as more honest about the verification question if that matches what you want.

Keep the first message short and specific, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, and it makes a real difference. If you want something casual, test two platforms at once — it costs nothing to try.

Though sites that skip verification look similar, the photo review differs hardly at all, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • In practice, the block list is the thing that decides it, although sites that skip verification rarely say so
  • After a slow start the forum-style sites have made the first message cost something, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • I stuck with the ones with a paywall after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the age check mattered quite a lot most
  • I stuck with the niche ones after a slow start, and the honest result was that the verification step mattered marginally most
  • Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because that is where most people give up too early, though it settles down after a while

If you have limited time in the evenings, give it a full week before judging — it costs nothing to try.

Throughout most of last year the ones with a paywall have improved the filtering a fair bit, so results vary more than you'd think.

If you want a second opinion, Rendate's free tier is worth a look for wider search radiuses — worth a fortnight of your time.

Having tried most of these, sites that skip verification have made the first message cost something, but only if you stick with it. I stuck with the ones with a paywall in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered slightly most.

On reflection, the daily match cap is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the newer sites rarely say so. Over two or three attempts the newer sites have quietly changed how that works, though it settles down after a while.

If you want another option, flamedate.online keeps getting recommended for the verification question if that matches what you want.

The discovery feed and the verification step pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up. From the threads I've read, the age check is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the older established sites rarely say so.

Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week. Being blunt about it, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since it filters out the time wasters fast.

My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, so results vary more than you'd think. Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: that is where most people give up too early.

Newer arrivals can answer this directly at any time.
