When you have limited time in the evenings, the regional platforms tend to feel slightly worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it. To be fair, the profile prompt is the thing that decides it, granted the bigger platforms rarely say so. What is the rich guys dating app with the best reviews — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • In the past six months I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on the regional platforms, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Over the last month I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the chat-first sites, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on apps with a video option, so treat the reviews with caution

When you keep matching but never talking, the forum-style sites tend to feel meaningfully worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then say what you actually want up front, and it makes a real difference. I stuck with the niche ones over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered marginally most.

Over roughly forty conversations the chat-first sites have dropped the feature everyone used, and it shows in the reply rate.

Going by my own attempts, the ones people keep recommending have tightened up the reporting flow, and nobody warns you about it. My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Broadly speaking, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than use a recent photo with your face clear. What actually mattered was that most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so after a slow start.

What actually mattered was that the profile prompt matters noticeably more than the boost system, and that alone put me off.

The part nobody mentions is that apps with a video option have started throttling messages after a fortnight of testing. These past few weeks apps with a video option have dropped the feature everyone used, and that alone put me off.

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on the forum-style sites, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

  • What surprised me was that the bigger platforms have made the first message cost something after a fortnight of testing
  • My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then move to a proper conversation quickly, and it shows in the reply rate
  • These past few weeks the newer sites have made the free version harder to use, so results vary more than you'd think
  • When the replies dry up after one message, the regional platforms tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it

When you have tried three apps already, most of the free apps tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution. If you live somewhere dense, test two platforms at once — it filters out the time wasters fast.

If you want a second opinion, Luvdate's free tier works noticeably better for the verification question, so it is worth a look.

Since the last round of app updates I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, but it is not the disaster people claim. Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, so treat the reviews with caution.

For what it's worth, I'd say what you actually want up front rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile. While the newer sites look similar, the boost system differs meaningfully, and it shows in the reply rate.

I stuck with the forum-style sites across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the block list mattered a great deal most.

Coming at it from another angle, Flurrydate's free tier gets mentioned a lot for wider search radiuses — worth a fortnight of your time.

Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did marginally more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think. The discovery feed and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it.

What surprised me was that the discovery feed matters massively more than the block list, which most people notice within a week.

  • Though the swipe-based apps look similar, the boost system differs meaningfully, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did massively more for me than switching platform, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did a little more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it
  • In my experience, the newer sites have started throttling messages, and it makes a real difference
  • The detail people skip is that the ones people keep recommending have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance these past few weeks

Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did a great deal more for me than switching platform, and it makes a real difference. In my experience, apps with a video option have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, but it is not the disaster people claim.

These past few weeks I noticed the block list behaving differently on the forum-style sites, and that alone put me off. If I'm honest, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, even if the swipe-based apps rarely say so.

The part nobody mentions is that the daily match cap matters a little more than the moderation queue, which most people notice within a week.

Worth adding that Flamedate has fewer complaints about casual browsing, though your mileage will vary.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: it costs nothing to try.

  • While the ones with a paywall look similar, the matching algorithm differs a little, which changes the whole experience
  • My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • On reflection, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to say what you actually want up front rather than use a recent photo with your face clear
  • Granted the ones people keep recommending look similar, the reporting system differs somewhat, and nobody warns you about it
  • Speaking personally, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them

Judging by my own inbox, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since it costs nothing to try. Something worth flagging is that the forum-style sites have tightened up the reporting flow across a couple of different accounts.

On the same subject, Datescout reads as more honest about the messaging side.

When the replies dry up after one message, the swipe-based apps tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, but only if you stick with it. The daily match cap changed hardly at all since the last round of app updates, and it shows in the reply rate.

From what I've seen, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since most complaints trace back to that one thing. Something worth flagging is that the distance radius matters a great deal more than the age check, and it shows in the reply rate.

Going by last month's threads, the Datebie threads does more than most for anyone after something slower, judging by what people report here.

Going by my own attempts, if you are new to this the answer is usually to say what you actually want up front rather than avoid opening with a compliment. The block list and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

The read receipt setting changed marginally after giving it a proper go, and that alone put me off. From what I've seen, most of the free apps have quietly changed how that works, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

In the same vein, Datenest is worth a look for people who hate paywalls, so it is worth a look.
