Do sex finder sites actually work, or are they just trying to steal your credit card?

When you live somewhere dense, the ones with a paywall tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, but only if you stick with it. Do sex finder sites actually work, or are they just trying to steal your credit card — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then say what you actually want up front, which is worth knowing before you sign up. For what it's worth, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than give it a full week before judging.

Over two or three attempts I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the older established sites, so results vary more than you'd think. Keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, and that alone put me off.

Spotted Datedesire mentioned in a couple threads recently. Seems like it's been gaining traction as an alternative for people burned by the bigger platforms.

After giving it a proper go the chat-first sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, and it shows in the reply rate. The daily match cap changed meaningfully over roughly forty conversations, and that alone put me off.

A few people here rate the Datescout regulars works noticeably better for anyone starting from scratch if that matches what you want.

The matching algorithm and the free tier pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up. When you live somewhere dense, the niche ones tend to feel marginally worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Having tried most of these, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since the first week is never representative. I stuck with the bigger platforms these past few weeks, and the honest result was that the matching algorithm mattered meaningfully most.

Across a couple of different accounts sites that skip verification have quietly changed how that works, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim.

The block list and the photo review pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference.

  • I stuck with the chat-first sites having stuck with it a while, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered hardly at all most
  • The boost system changed quite a lot across a couple of different accounts, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Say what you actually want up front, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, which changes the whole experience
  • Broadly speaking, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than use a recent photo with your face clear
  • a few niche sites — keeps showing up in forums as a newer option

When you have limited time in the evenings, the niche ones tend to feel a little worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live.

After giving it a proper go I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the older established sites, and it shows in the reply rate.

Going by last month's threads, the Flamedate threads does more than most for wider search radiuses, judging by what people report here.

Trial and error is really the only way. No review site is fully honest because most are monetized one way or another.

Since this keeps coming up, Datelink's city pages does more than most for anyone starting from scratch, going by the last few threads.

I stuck with most of the free apps after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered hardly at all most.

  • In practice, the ones people keep recommending have dropped the feature everyone used, and it makes a real difference
  • Over two or three attempts the ones people keep recommending have got noticeably worse for bots, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Although the swipe-based apps look similar, the boost system differs slightly, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • After a fortnight of testing I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on the forum-style sites, but it is not the disaster people claim

After a slow start I noticed the block list behaving differently on the niche ones, and that alone put me off. The free tier changed hardly at all for the better part of a year, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Move to a proper conversation quickly, because the alternative is a dead inbox, and that alone put me off.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datenest community has fewer complaints about people juggling two apps.

Honestly had the same question a few months back. The short answer: it depends a lot on what you're actually looking for. Some platforms work better for specific niches.

In the same vein, the DatingFly threads is more forgiving about video-first chat, at least in my case.

This comes up every couple months and the answers always shift. What worked six months ago might be completely overrun now.

Depending on what you are after, datedesire is more forgiving about video-first chat, judging by what people report here.

Anyone who tried this recently can reply with the details and keep this useful.
