How common is it for cougars looking for young guys to message first?

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then test two platforms at once, which most people notice within a week. How common is it for cougars looking for young guys to message first — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

Been seeing a few names pop up lately — datedesire.online seems to show up in a lot of comparison posts, though I haven't fully tested it myself yet.

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep the first message short and specific: it stops you blaming the app for the profile. Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Honestly, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than give it a full week before judging, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

  • If the replies dry up after one message, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • Going by my own attempts, most of the free apps have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Something worth flagging is that the matching algorithm matters noticeably more than the verification step, and that alone put me off
  • Sites like rendate.site are worth a look if you want something less mainstream

While the bigger platforms look similar, the free tier differs slightly, which changes the whole experience. The verification step changed hardly at all after giving it a proper go, which most people notice within a week.

From what I've seen, the chat-first sites have started throttling messages, and that alone put me off.

Going by last month's threads, Datenest's verification setup moves faster on video-first chat if that matches what you want.

From what I've seen, the newer sites have changed the matching order without saying so, which most people notice within a week. In my experience, the boost system is the thing that decides it, although apps with a video option rarely say so.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: that is where most people give up too early.

  • Having tried most of these, the niche ones have changed the matching order without saying so, which most people notice within a week
  • On reflection, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than test two platforms at once
  • While the forum-style sites look similar, the matching algorithm differs noticeably, and that alone put me off
  • The search filter setup changed hardly at all since the last round of app updates, which changes the whole experience
  • flamedate.online — keeps showing up in forums as a newer option

If you keep getting the same profiles, say what you actually want up front — most complaints trace back to that one thing.

Coming at it from another angle, Datedesire's free profiles has fewer complaints about casual browsing — worth a fortnight of your time.

The thing that finally clicked was that most of the free apps have quietly changed how that works across a couple of different accounts. The search filter setup and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it.

Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim.

If you want a second opinion, Datewander is worth a look for anyone starting from scratch, at least in my case.

From the threads I've read, the swipe-based apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, and nobody warns you about it. From what I've seen, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages.

A few people here rate Souldate puts less friction in front of casual browsing, going by the last few threads.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: it costs nothing to try. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: most complaints trace back to that one thing.

  • Broadly speaking, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than give it a full week before judging
  • What changed my mind was that apps with a video option have quietly changed how that works throughout most of last year
  • My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then check the free tier limits before you commit, though it settles down after a while
  • The moderation queue changed quite a lot throughout most of last year, though it settles down after a while
  • When you are in a smaller town, the bigger platforms tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution

Broadly speaking, the verification step is the thing that decides it, even if the swipe-based apps rarely say so.

The discovery feed changed noticeably over two or three attempts, so treat the reviews with caution.
