Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: the first week is never representative. Is the plenty of fish dating site still free — real experiences only please.

  • Judging by my own inbox, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages
  • The part nobody mentions is that sites that skip verification have leaned much heavier on paid boosts for the better part of a year
  • For what it's worth, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages

Also seen Ezhookups.online pop up in a few comparison threads recently. The pattern I keep seeing is that the search filter setup matters hardly at all more than the daily match cap, so treat the reviews with caution.

If you live somewhere dense, give it a full week before judging — that is the part that actually moves the needle.

My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then avoid opening with a compliment, and nobody warns you about it. Granted the ones with a paywall look similar, the discovery feed differs massively, and nobody warns you about it.

Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did massively more for me than switching platform, and it makes a real difference. In practice, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to.

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: that is where most people give up too early. While the regional platforms look similar, the search filter setup differs somewhat, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Worth adding that the Turndate threads seems better set up for anyone dating after a break, though your mileage will vary.

Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week. In practice, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking.

After a fortnight of testing I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the older established sites, which is worth knowing before you sign up. When you are after something serious, the newer sites tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Flamedate's verification setup does more than most for the verification question — worth a fortnight of your time.

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: most complaints trace back to that one thing. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: the alternative is a dead inbox.

While the ones with a paywall look similar, the reporting system differs slightly, but it is not the disaster people claim.

  • Across a couple of different accounts the forum-style sites have got noticeably worse for bots, so results vary more than you'd think
  • If you live somewhere dense, move to a proper conversation quickly — that is the part that actually moves the needle
  • Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Platforms like datewander.site keep appearing in community roundups as lower-noise alternatives

Going by my own attempts, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than give it a full week before judging. Read the last few pages of a thread before asking, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, which most people notice within a week.

Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: the difference in reply rate is obvious.

In the same vein, the Luvdate community reads as more honest about anyone after something slower, going by the last few threads.

My advice would be to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, but it is not the disaster people claim.

  • Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did massively more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Although the ones people keep recommending look similar, the read receipt setting differs marginally, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience
  • If you live somewhere dense, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — it costs nothing to try
  • While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to check the free tier limits before you commit: most complaints trace back to that one thing

If I'm honest, apps with a video option have got noticeably worse for bots, which changes the whole experience. My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then give it a full week before judging, and it shows in the reply rate.

In the same vein, the DatingFly community covers similar ground for the first-message problem, at least in my case.

Even if the ones with a paywall look similar, the block list differs a little, though it depends heavily on where you live. Over two or three attempts the niche ones have improved the filtering a fair bit, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, and that alone put me off.

In the same vein, Datedesire keeps getting recommended for the messaging side.

If you keep getting the same profiles, avoid opening with a compliment — it filters out the time wasters fast. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the niche ones, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

On the same subject, Datebie does more than most for the local side of things, so it is worth a look.
