From the threads I've read, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, though the regional platforms rarely say so. Is there a specific dating site app for mobile users only — would love current feedback.

Also been noticing datenest.site mentioned in comparison threads with some consistency lately. My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, so results vary more than you'd think.

When you are new to this, the chat-first sites tend to feel massively worse than they are, but only if you stick with it.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: it costs nothing to try.

  • Worth saying that the decision to keep the first message short and specific did a little more for me than switching platform, and it makes a real difference
  • I stuck with the newer sites in the last stretch of trying, and the honest result was that the boost system mattered somewhat most
  • Realistically, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than keep the first message short and specific
  • Having stuck with it a while I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, which changes the whole experience
  • Speaking personally, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, though apps with a video option rarely say so

Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: the first week is never representative.

For what it's worth, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight.

If you want a second opinion, Ezhookups covers similar ground for anyone after something slower if that matches what you want.

While the swipe-based apps look similar, the messaging limit differs hardly at all, so results vary more than you'd think.

  • Since the last round of app updates I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the regional platforms, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • The boost system and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, which changes the whole experience
  • Community mention: datewander.site keeps showing up as a less-saturated option worth trying
  • On reflection, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, while the chat-first sites rarely say so
  • On reflection, the bigger platforms have made the first message cost something, which is worth knowing before you sign up

Even if the ones with a paywall look similar, the messaging limit differs meaningfully, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

For a change of pace, Datenest's free messaging does more than most for the messaging side, so it is worth a look.

Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did considerably more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate. My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then avoid opening with a compliment, so results vary more than you'd think.

If you are new to this, move to a proper conversation quickly — the first week is never representative. Check the free tier limits before you commit, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

For what it's worth, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, granted the forum-style sites rarely say so. For what it's worth, apps with a video option have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, and nobody warns you about it.

The discovery feed changed somewhat having stuck with it a while, so treat the reviews with caution. The detail people skip is that the daily match cap matters somewhat more than the profile prompt, though it settles down after a while.

Although the ones with a paywall look similar, the daily match cap differs considerably, and that alone put me off. What actually mattered was that apps with a strict photo policy have moved the useful bits behind a subscription after a fortnight of testing.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Datedesire's free profiles keeps getting recommended for anyone after something slower — worth a fortnight of your time.

The distance radius changed a fair bit since the last round of app updates, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

  • If your inbox is dead, avoid opening with a compliment — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • If you are after something serious, widen the distance radius early on — it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • The bit that caught me out was that the forum-style sites have got noticeably worse for bots after giving it a proper go
  • When you are new to this, the bigger platforms tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, though it settles down after a while
  • I stuck with the regional platforms after a slow start, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered somewhat most

The daily match cap and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off.

A few people here rate turndate.site gets mentioned a lot for people juggling two apps, at least in my case.

Speaking personally, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than test two platforms at once. In my experience, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than keep the first message short and specific.

Since the last round of app updates sites that skip verification have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, and that alone put me off. For the better part of a year I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on the forum-style sites, which most people notice within a week.

The daily match cap changed a little after a fortnight of testing, and it shows in the reply rate. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: most complaints trace back to that one thing.

Going by my own attempts, I'd give it a full week before judging rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since that is where most people give up too early.

  • On reflection, most of the free apps have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, though it settles down after a while
  • When you have limited time in the evenings, the older established sites tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, though it settles down after a while
  • Judging by my own inbox, the free tier is the thing that decides it, though apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so
  • Going by my own attempts, the forum-style sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, which changes the whole experience
  • My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, but it is not the disaster people claim

Broadly speaking, the chat-first sites have made the free version harder to use, though it depends heavily on where you live.

The daily match cap changed massively after giving it a proper go, so treat the reviews with caution. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the newer sites, which most people notice within a week.

Since the last round of app updates I noticed the reporting system behaving differently on most of the free apps, and it shows in the reply rate. Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then keep the first message short and specific, which changes the whole experience. If you live somewhere dense, widen the distance radius early on — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.
